Noise Hotline
A dedicated hotline is available to record aircraft noise complaints. Please provide the date and time of the unusual aircraft occurrence(s) and your contact information, i.e., name, address, and telephone number. A knowledgeable Noise Compatibility Officer is on staff to register, evaluate, and return incoming calls by the next business day.
Public Workshops: Public Workshops will be an informal opportunity for the general public to discuss the project with the Airport and its consultant team. Workshops will be conducted in pairs at key milestones in the noise study and will be held on consecutive days at two locations in the vicinity of the Airport. Team members will be available during each three-hour workshop to answer neighbors' questions one-on-one or in small groups at multiple stations around the room.
The first workshop pair was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on May 6 at the Clara E. Westropp Fundamental Education Center and on May 7 at Olmsted Falls High School. Workstation topics were introductory in nature and covered the basic tasks in a Part 150 Noise Compatibility Plan Update. The consultant team described preliminary analyses of the numbers and types of aircraft using the Airport, showed samples of radar data indicating where the aircraft fly over the ground, and presented information on existing land uses surrounding the facility. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport staff members were on hand to describe the Airport’s noise monitoring system and answer questions about the existing sound insulation program. The consultant team was also on hand to describe the project’s public outreach effort and take comments from visitors. Attendance at the two workshops totaled 120 people. The second pair was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Brook Park Recreation Center and Sept. 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fairview Park City Hall. Workshop stations included the noise measurement program objectives, the locations where monitoring had taken place and several key findings. The consultant team offered radar data sources, reviewed average daily operations and 2008 runway use. The team also presented the CLE Master Plan Status and Forecast and explained its coordination with the Part 150 process. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport staff members were on hand to describe the Airport’s noise monitoring system and answer questions about the existing sound insulation program. The consultant team was also on hand to describe the project’s public outreach effort and take comments from visitors. Attendance at the two workshops totaled 66 people. The third pair of workshops is tentatively scheduled for January 2010. Dates and locations of that pair will be announced on this website and in a future newsletter (see below).
Newsletters: Newsletters updating the public on the study and giving information about the public workshops will be published throughout this study process.
The first newsletter introduces the study and offers information on how the consultants measure sound. It is available electronically at the following link and can also be found in a printed version at libraries, senior centers and municipal offices.
Working Group: To make sure this study is done with input from the communities affected by the noise, a Working Group of representatives will have direct input into the process. The Working Group is comprised of members representing a variety of interests, including elected officials, community development corporations, municipal planning departments, the Federal Aviation Administration, airlines, cargo operators, and airport administrators.
The Group will meet and discuss various technical topics throughout the study. Notes summarizing each meeting will be available on this website, and complete audio recordings of each meeting will be available for download. Click on the links below to see and hear each meeting’s proceedings:
